Job Description

Job Summary: The Associate Dean-Student Affairs provides leadership in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of initiatives to ensure the academic success, personal well-being, community building, and professional formation of the School of Medicine's talented, diverse and purpose-driven students. Assists the Dean in carrying out the mission of the School of Medicine as it applies to students with an emphasis on providing a "user-friendly" interface between the student, faculty, staff and administration. Collaborates with other associate and assistant deans of the school to meet the above objectives but most closely with those in the Office of the Senior Associate Dean for Educational Affairs, the Office of Admissions and the Office of the Associate Dean for Finance and Administration.

Education and Experience: Master's Degree required. Five years of experience required.

Knowledge and Skills: Able to effectively communicate changes and instructions in a professional, effective and positive manner. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint). Able to communicate effectively on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position. Able to work with people in a tactful and diplomatic manner. Relates well with staff, students, faculty, administration, and others. Able to deal with conflict and criticisms objectively. Able to maintain flexibility among interruptions.
