Job Description

STV is looking for a Rail Structural Engineering Specialist to join our highly skilled Rail Team in Raleigh, Jacksonville, or Atlanta. The ideal candidate should have some previous experience in structural transportation engineering and a strong interest in rail design and construction projects. The candidate will have the opportunity to work directly with Class 1 freight railroads and passenger systems such as Amtrak, CTA, and others.

As a Rail Structural Engineering Specialist, you will focus on the design and production of planning and construction bid documents. You will have the opportunity to work under the direction of experienced engineers and learn structural design fundamentals.

Responsibilities:

  • Use Microstation and AutoCAD to design and detail structural elements such as bridges, retaining walls, and culverts
  • Participate in variety of planning, design, and construction projects
  • Develop construction documents, including technical drawings and specifications
  • Assist in bridge inspections and load ratings
  • Develop technical design reports, calculations, and memos on structural based subject matter

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Master's degree with a structural focus is a plus
  • 2+ years professional experience
  • An engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is strongly preferred but not required
  • A basic understanding of structural analysis, seismic design, and design of steel, concrete, pre-stressed concrete, masonry and timber
  • Familiarity with structural design and drafting software
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Other positive attributes:

  • Experience using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with Mathcad, FB Multipier, L-Pile, Midas, LARSA, CSI Bridge, STAAD, or Bentley design products
  • Construction site experience
  • Previous experience with structural design and engineering

Compensation Range:

$64,044.00 - $85,392.00
