Join the Energy Revolution! Albemarle Corporation, a global leader in lithium, bromine, and catalyst solutions, is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Sr. Membrane Scientist to join our dynamic Energy Storage R&D team in Kings Mountain, NC.

As a key member of our R&D team, you'll have the opportunity to develop cutting-edge lithium-based products and technologies, push the boundaries of what's possible in the world of energy storage and make a real impact. Our products are critical components of the lithium-ion batteries powering everything from electric vehicles to pacemakers, and your work will help shape the future of energy!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a broad cross-functional team and proactively share membrane expertise to influence stakeholders on achieving business outcomes and meeting timebound technical milestones.
  • Provide expert scientific reviews and validate external membrane technologies via focused lab scale /bench scale membrane testing.
  • Scope, plan, and execute membrane separation research project, with a goal of scale-up and commercialization for Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE)
  • Mentor junior team members, technicians, and interns, provide technical consultation to cross-functional partners.
  • Foster a culture of safety, health and environmental responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, materials science, or related field, a related scientific discipline with specific emphasis in membrane separation sciences.
  • 5-10 years of direct experience in membrane separations technologies (i.e., reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, forward osmosis, membrane distillation, electrodialysis) with a minimum of 3-5 years of post-graduate experience in membranes.
  • Extensive technical knowledge and strong hands-on experience in membrane process engineering at pilot scale.
  • A curious, innovative, and highly collaborative mindset.

Desired Competencies:

  • Strong organizational and project management skills. Able to prioritize and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Hands on experience in developing membrane separation technology for Li concentration, purification, and conversion with a track record of delivering results.
  • Expertise in membrane-based process simulation.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy and precision in experimental design and analysis of results.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to simplify complexity for non-technical stakeholders.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to work in a laboratory environment, requiring standing for 25% or more of the time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 15-20 lbs and on occasion move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have dexterity to handle delicate laboratory equipment.
  • Must be able to physically operate scientific equipment and instruments.
