Job Summary

Incumbent provides direct patient care and oversees the daily clinical operations of the UAII Community Clinic including phone triage, patient assessment and treatment within scope of practice, health education and medication administration, clinical follow up, communication of health information with patients and collaborating providers/organizations to advance patient care outcomes. The Registered Nurse must be dedicated to primary care, preventive medicine, and public health for an underserved, minority population and possess strong communication and leadership skills.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide medical assessment, treatment services, and education to patients of the clinic with an emphasis on disease prevention and chronic disease management for children, adults and geriatric patients
  • Oversee and maintain the laboratory package
  • Assist medical providers in processing prescription refills, administration of medications, ancillary testing, and/or referrals
  • Provide clinical triage, health screening and education in support of UAII's public health activities
  • Support medical providers in review of ancillary test results and coordinate notification to the patient
  • Initiate and complete documentation of clinical, case management and follow up activities thoroughly, accurately and in a timely manner
  • Communicate with the clinic's partner's and patients.
  • Responds to on-site emergencies
  • Create and track reportable data electronically and manually using the EHR and MS Office
  • Develop and conduct health education workshops and newsletter articles as needed
  • Supervise medical assistants and determine the delegation of clinical services duties and clinical supply management, including vaccine supply and administration, and point of care laboratory testing
  • Work closely with the Medical Director to provide leadership and ensure smooth, compliant, efficient and effective medical service delivery
  • Work closely with Medical Director to ensure OSHA, emergency preparedness, infection control and regulatory compliance
  • Oversee management of clinical supply inventory
  • Oversee management of clinical pharmaceutical and vaccine inventory and administration
  • Oversee immunization and vaccine programs reports
  • Attend all staff, clinical, board or other special meetings as requested
  • Participate in the development and review of clinic policies and procedures
  • Participate in training and orientation with clinical staff
  • Participate in public relations and community outreach activities, as clinic shall from time to time reasonably request
  • Support the mission of UAII and represent UAII at functions as requested

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Two (2) years of experience in a clinical setting.
  • Current California RN license.
  • Current CPR certification - BLS.
  • A combination of experience, education, and training may substitute for degree requirements on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)
  • Advanced education in healthcare management.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a clinical setting.
  • Outpatient experience.
  • Experience working in community health center or health safety-net facilities
  • Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups, and performance-based government contracts.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of working phlebotomy experience.
  • Knowledge of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (PL93-638).
  • Knowledge of Title V of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (PL 94-437).
  • Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act (PL 111-148).
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) cultures and lifestyles, and work effectively with AI/AN population.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants.
  • Skills in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information, and comply with all applicable federal and state privacy laws, as well as UAII policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
  • Ability to keep up with a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with various people on various, and at times, complex issues.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.
