Brown and Caldwell (BC) is seeking a senior level civil/environmental professional engineer with a desire to apply and develop their project management, leadership, and business development skills. The position will be part of BC's Private Sector Business Unit, although project work will be completed for both private sector and municipal clients. The desired candidate will have experience working with land application of wastewaters and byproducts from municipal and industrial facilities.

Detailed Description:

In this role, you will work as a project manager to execute work involving land application permitting for industrial facilities. You will lead and support a variety of projects that may include planning, evaluation, design, and construction related activities for wastewater, water, and stormwater conveyance systems. We are looking for someone that is highly organized and capable of working with a diverse team of scientists and engineers on multiple tasks with competing priorities. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as a Project Manager for a variety of projects focusing on delivery, schedule, and budget.
  • Coordinate with clients to ensure that all permit-required monitoring is completed and reported. Permit required monitoring will typically include testing of land applied byproducts and/or wastewaters, flows and quantities of land applied materials, crop yields, crop tissue, soils, and groundwater.
  • Complete monitoring reports that review and interpret client data to determine if client's operations are compliant with permit requirements.
  • Assist with preparation of cost estimates for operating modifications that will facilitate permit compliance when needed. Work across BC's various communities of practice (e.g., process wastewater engineering, hydrogeology) to assist clients in this regard.
  • Preparation of land application permit applications for industrial and municipal utility operations.
  • Preparation of engineering reports, technical memoranda, and specifications.
  • Conducting compliance related site visits, inventorying/assessing facilities for compliance plans and conducting compliance audits.
  • Negotiating permitting strategies and requirements with regulators.
  • Interacting and communicating directly with clients on behalf of BC.
  • Interface with engineering disciplines, construction management, and cost estimating departments to develop and deliver proposals and design documents.
  • Review technical work product prepared by junior staff.
  • Data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with groups and project teams across the Area and Company

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • BS degree in biological, civil, or environmental engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of California. Or the ability to obtain within six months.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project, Power point, Outlook).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • 8-15 years' experience in environmental work with progressive responsibilities, including project management and business development.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record and willingness to travel and conduct field work.
  • Experience with land application of municipal and industrial byproducts (e.g., municipal biosolids, ashes, industrial wastewater treatment solids, municipal and industrial wastewaters) for agricultural crop production.
  • Experience evaluating analytical test data for wastewater treatment solids and wastewaters in regard to suitability for agricultural crop production, calculation of appropriate application rates, regulatory limits, and monitoring requirements for site soils, crop, groundwater, and surface water.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment under tight and pressured deadlines.

Salary Range:Theanticipatedstarting payrange for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and maybemore or lessdependingupon skills, experience,and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $103,000 - $141,000


Location B: $114,000- $155,000

Location C: $124,000 - $169,000
