Brown and Caldwell is currently seeking a self-motivated senior water and wastewater treatment engineer specializing in process mechanical design to join our Irvine, Los Angeles, , San Diego, Phoenix, or Las Vegas office. Remote work allowed.

Job Expectations:

In this technical role, you will prepare engineering drawings, calculations, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), specifications, and technical reports for a variety of municipal water and wastewater projects as part of the Brown and Caldwell Design Services group. You will be expected to lead and manage design tasks and serve as a Brown and Caldwell subject matter expert. You will also be responsible to mentor junior and entry level engineers. Other responsibilities for this position include occasional site visits during various project phases that may include tasks such as equipment evaluation, process testing and troubleshooting, construction inspection and observations, and other types of field work. You will support projects both locally and nationally, but with a focus on Brown and Caldwell's Cal-Desert business region.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute engineering work on water and environmental projects including wastewater treatment, water treatment, advanced treatment, and pumping and conveyance.
  • Work on engineering designs preparing drawings, specifications, P&IDs, calculations, technical reports, and equipment selection for a variety of water or wastewater projects.
  • Serve as process mechanical discipline lead and/or design manager on projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on process mechanical design.
  • Serve as process mechanical subject matter expert (SME) depending on experience.
  • Participate in developing and publishing regular Design Guidelines, Notes from the Trenches and other technical training materials.
  • Mentor, delegate, oversee the work of, and possibly supervise less-experienced process mechanical engineers.
  • Determine deliverable product quality meets project and BC standards.
  • Direct the work of drafters and designers and coordinate with other disciplines to complete process mechanical drawings.
  • Lead the preparation and writing of technical memoranda, reports, etc.
  • Lead process mechanical related studies or alternatives analyses, including preparation of engineering economic analysis.
  • Perform or oversee office services during construction on projects, including submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, and other construction related engineering work.
  • Check performance and/or conformity with design drawings and specifications through field inspection, testing and commissioning of projects
  • Duties also include occasional field activities such as site investigations, data collection, compilation, analysis, and documentation; these activities require occasional travel to project sites, including occasional sites that are not local to your home office.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • B.S. degree in Environmental, Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering; M.S. degree preferred
  • P.E. certification/registration in Mechanical, Environmental, or Civil in good standing.
  • Experience designing water and wastewater projects and preparing construction documents including drawings, P&IDs, specifications, control narratives, technical memoranda, etc. is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of similar experience required; 15+ years preferred.
  • Ability to work with Client organizations at all levels.
  • Ability to understand multi-discipline delivery of large treatment plants and pump stations and their associated facilities.
  • Knowledge of company-wide technical resources to leverage technical expertise.
  • Strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills essential.
  • Task design lead experience is required, Project discipline lead experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Access, Outlook, etc.) required
  • Experience performing engineering calculations using computer software (Excel, Mathcad, etc.) is required
  • Experience writing and editing equipment and piping specifications is required
  • Experience with AFT Arrow and AFT Fathom is preferred
  • Experience with ProjectWise Explorer is preferred
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A:

Salary: $115,000 - $156,000

Location B:

Salary: $126,000 - $172,000
