WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Provide immediate and temporary first aid services for victims of injury and sudden illness at events that are contracted between organizations and the American Red Cross. Due to the high degree of risk associated with the provision of this service, this position requires judgment and decision-making abilities that help provide lifesaving response and balance the risks to the organization and employees/volunteers working in the program. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.

Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD

  • Respond quickly and efficiently, providing emergency care only within the level of American Red Cross training.
  • Follow directions given by the FAST Station Leader and staff.
  • Work in conjunction with Emergency Medical Services personnel.
  • Complete FAST records and reports, including the Patient Treatment Form.
  • Provide FAST communications support by way of 800 MHz radio.
  • Work with a volunteer counterpart to ensure key volunteers are utilized and ensure depth within the function.

Scope: Learning aspects of the job. Assignments are received in task- oriented terms. Contacts primarily within immediate work unit.

Standard Schedule: Variable, anytime - PTOC - M-F. Sat, Sun

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE COMPETITIVE EDGE

  • Combination of candidate's education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description's minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).
  • Education: High School or equivalent required.
  • Experience: Up to 1 year of related experience.
  • Management Experience: n/a
  • Hold current certifications in American Red Cross First Aid (3-year recertification), American Red Cross Adult CPR/AED with Child and Infant CPR (annual recertification), and Preventing Disease Transmission (annual recertification). Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly. Flexible and able to communicate clearly. Must provide own reliable transportation. Maintain confidentiality. Work with integrity and ethics. Ability to work on a team.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Exposure Level 2. Normal work involves occasional exposure to blood or blood components and/or human body fluids or tissue samples as a result of splashes, spills, and/or needle sticks or performance of or assistance in first aid.
